• Everything you ALWAYS wanted to know about trade finance

    But were afraid to ask...

  • Due to a poor health condition, I have decided to suspend all my activities,
    And this with immediate effect.

I'll keep you posted if that ever changes.

EVERYTHING YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT TRADE FINANCE BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK

    - GOVER TRADE TECHNOLOGIES -

    Hugo Verschoren

I do have a lot of passions. Trade Finance being one of them...

I started my career as a banker in 1978 in the Letter of Credit department at (at that time) BBL in Antwerp.

Early nineties I moved to corporate sales.

Payments and Cash Management, Financial Markets (from simple forward contracts to exotic interest rate currency swaps and options) and, yes, Trade Finance were the products in my shop window.

In 1996 I moved to the Port of Antwerp as Corporate Relationship manager. Forwarders, shipping companies and other players in the port were my customers. Each with their special needs for banking and specialised lending.

I did not suffer from the millennium bug at all when I returned into the Trade Finance business in the year 2000. At first in Brussels, afterwards on ING Group level in Amsterdam.

Product and risk management, implementation of back office and front office systems, corporate sales, expert advice, management, ... These things do not have that many secrets for me.

Since more than 10 years I'm also active in the Banking Commission of the International Chamber of Commerce as a Technical Advisor and I'm involved in working groups about Regulatory Advocacy, Compliance and Anti-Money Laundering, Bank Payment Obligation, Digitisation, the Uniform Rules for Digital Trade and the ICC Trade Register.

I'm a currently a member of the ICC National Trade Finance Committee in Belgium and I chaired the Dutch ICC National Trade Finance Committee when I was based in Amsterdam. Pas mal comme petit Belge, n'est-ce pas?

After wandering around through many areas of BBL and ING it was time to spend the rest of my career in servicing the Trade Finance community as an independent expert and consultant. This gave rise to goVer Trade Technologies.

Nice to know: The Institute of International Banking Law and Practice (IIBLP) awarded me the title of 'LC Professional of 2018'!
